Text Box: Welcome to St. Michael’s and South Parish Church, Dumfries. Thank you for your interest in our web site. We are proud of our town, our church, the people in it, and our history. The aim of this web site is to communicate all these things to those in our Parish and to those who have an interest in all that is good in the work we do. We also hope to widen our message and make the Church more accessible to all. By using this new technology, we hope to provide on-line access to St. Michael’s and South Parish Church, to let you know about our various activities and future events and also to give you the opportunity to e-mail us directly with your comments and ideas. You can also view Church and community news, as well as reports on recent events and the work of our various organisations. Much time has been spent in research, a most interesting exercise, but deciding what could be accommodated in the space provided was a bit of a problem. We have attempted to include the most interesting events in the history of St. Michaels and South. It is hoped the information provided will be of interest to the congregation and to visitors. We refer mainly to the past, but also pass comment on the future of this historic church. There are over one thousand members listed on the communion role, so the potential for pastoral care in this large parish presents a noble task for the myself and Kirk Session in the years ahead. We have celebrated our two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the rebuilding of our church and celebrate the recent restoration of the church roof, tower and steeple. Credits go to John Paterson, William Murray and Tom Beeton for their research, Tom Henderson for his assistance, and Gordon Henderson for developing this site.
